GAME FORMATS BY AGE

All games are two 21-minute run-time periods. All penalties except 8u are 2-minute run-time penalties. No clock stoppages except for injury.

8U
  • Games on the Pond are full-ice 5-on-5 with no buzzers, offsides, or icings.
  • Games on the Barn are half-ice 4-on-4 with 90-second buzzers (no clock stoppage at buzzer). 
  • Penalties are removal of player from the ice for the remainder of the shift (no whistle).
  • Faceoffs only for puck out of play or start of period on normal half-ice sheets.
  • Whistles only for goals, goalie freezing puck, or puck out of play.
10u-12u
  • Games on the Pond are 4-on-4 with no offsides or icings. All other rinks are normal playing rules.
14U
  • Games on the Pond are 3-on-3 with no offsides or icings. All other rinks are normal playing rules.

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

Divisions are re-leveled for playoffs (except for 14u). All divisions will receive 3 round robin games, then proceed to semifinals (or consolation), followed by a championship game. (4 games minimum - 5 games maximum)

8U
  • Round Robin is 2 divisions (6 x 6 teams).
  • The bottom 2 in Div 1 and top 2 in Div 2 will form a 3rd Playoff division.
10U
  • Round Robin is 2 divisions (6 x 8 teams).
  • The bottom 2 in Div 1 and top 2 in Div 2 will form a 3rd Playoff division.
  • The bottom 2 in Div 2 are eliminated and will receive a consolation match.
12U
  • Round Robin is 3 divisions (6 x 4 x 4 teams).
  • The bottom 2 teams in each division are relegated down 1 division for playoffs.
  • The bottom 2 in Div 3 are eliminated and will receive a consolation match.
14U
  • Traditional 4-team round robin + semifinals + championship.

FAQ

Mouthguards

Mouthguards are required for 12u and older (USA Hockey mandated).

*It is the responsibility of parents/coaches to adhere to this equipment safety rule and ultimately the referee to enforce the rule by warning the team and further penalizing or removing players in violation.

Parents CODE of ConDUCT, noisemakers, AND ESTABLISHING A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT

Our policy is both lenient and protective of the atmosphere. We welcome a lively atmosphere to encourage the players and foster a healthy tournament.

  • Horns and whistles of any kind are prohibited due to interference with the buzzers and whistles. Other noisemakers are generally prohibited in ice rinks and arenas, but we permit them unless they are reported as disruptive or discouraging. Please report violations to security or tournament staff. Violations will result in an explanatory warning followed by confiscation of the noisemaker.
  • Verbal or gestural disapproval of the referee's decisions, as well as confrontational behavior with other spectators/parents is generally zero-tolerance by USA Hockey and Dallas Stars Tournaments. Please report any disturbances to security or staff.

OVERVIEW

Our Capitol City Classic will take place November 22-24, 2025, at The Pond Hockey Club in Austin, TX, and the Ice at the Crossover in Cedar Park, TX. We host local and regional 8U - 14U House/Rec teams & players in a unique, fun and competitive tournament environment featuring games on The Barn (Full-Ice Sheet) and The Pond (Reduced-Sheet/Indoor Pond). As always, this start-of-Thanksgiving break event promises to be a fantastic experience for all involved! Enjoy fun tournament play and added benefits only found at Dallas Stars Tournaments events!

*Subdivisions/Levels may be created based on Divisions/Levels & number of teams registered.
*Tournament Divisions/Participating Teams are released on HockeyShift approx. 5-10 days prior to the start of the tournament, if not sooner.
*Tournament Online Roster & Team Information Form Submission will begin soon after registration closes. All participating teams will be notified once Roster submission begins.

SCHEDULE STRUCTURE

GAME MINIMUM
Each team will play a minimum of four (4) games throughout the tournament event:
Friday | Arrive/Available in Austin (ALL TEAMS)
• Saturday | 1 or More Games Possible [Morning / Afternoon / Evening]
• Sunday 
| 1 or More Games Possible [Morning / Afternoon / Evening]
• Monday 
| 1 or More Games Possible [Morning / Afternoon]
*Games begin at 7am Saturday and conclude at 6pm Monday.

PRICING

• ALL AGE GROUPS & DIVISIONS | TEAM ENTRY FEE: $1,895
*$500 deposit due at the time of registration acceptance with the final amount due by the Registration Deadline.  
*Acceptance into the tournament is automatic upon completion of registration, unless otherwise noted.
